Peace shatters faster than glass

Peace can be a fragile thing, yet it is often the cornerstone of one’s wellbeing and overall happiness. Unfortunately, peace can also be easily disrupted and shattered, often more quickly than a piece of glass breaking. When the peace is disrupted, one’s mental and emotional stability can be destabilised.

Peace is not something that one can simply obtain and maintain forever. It takes effort and dedication to cultivate a state of peace, and even then, external or internal factors can quickly break apart the fragile balance. Tragedy, loss, or trauma can cause your peace to suddenly shatter, leaving one feeling helpless and overwhelmed.

Additionally, certain mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety can cause peace of mind to unravel and even disappear. Negative thought patterns, feelings of worthlessness, and persistent feelings of unease can all be signs of an underlying mental health issue, which can lead to a disruption of one’s peace.

It is often up to each individual to recognise the signs of impending disruption of peace and find ways to protect and nurture it. Taking time for self-care, engaging in activities that bring joy, and surrounding oneself with supportive people can help maintain one’s peace of mind. Talking to a mental health professional can also be beneficial in finding ways to cope with the events that threaten to disrupt the peace.

Peace may be fragile, but its importance should not be underestimated. It is often the foundation of happiness and contentment, and taking steps to protect it is important. Being aware of the factors that can lead to its disruption and being proactive in keeping it in place is key to keeping oneself in an emotionally healthy state.

# 📣 In Action What can I do to maintain a peaceful mind?

There are many things you can do to maintain a peaceful mind. Here are eight ideas:

  1. Practice mindful meditation. Take some time each day to focus on your breath and be present in the moment, or better still, pray.

  2. Exercise. Physical activity helps to reduce stress and can clear the mind of negative thoughts.

  3. Get enough sleep. A well-rested mind can better handle stress and challenging situations.

  4. Take some time for yourself. Spend time doing activities that you enjoy, such as reading, writing, or taking a walk.

  5. Spend time with people who bring you joy. Spend time with positive people who make you feel supported and uplifted.

  6. Create a daily routine. A structured day can help to bring a sense of order and peace to your life.

  7. Practice self-compassion. Be gentle and kind to yourself.

  8. Let go of the need for perfection. Accept that you have done your best and be proud of your accomplishments.
